Without proper planning, tourism can cause problems. For example, too many tourists can crowd public places that are also enjoyed by the inhabitant of a country. If tourists create too much traffic, the inhabitants become annoyed and unhappy. They begin to dislike tourists and to treat them impolitely. They forget how much tourism can help the country’s economy. It is important to think about the people of a destination country and how tourism affects tourists.
Tourism should also advance the well-being (health and happiness) of local inhabitants.
Too much tourism can be a problem. If tourism grows too quickly, people must leave other jobs to work in the tourism industry. This means that other parts of the country’s economy can suffer.
On the other hand, if there is not enough tourism, people can lose jobs. Business can also lose money. It costs a great deal of money to build large hotels , airports, air terminals ,first-class roads ,and other support facilities(设施) needed by tourist attractions. For example, a major international-class tourism hotel can cost as much as 50 thousand dollars per room to build. If this room is not used most of the time, the owners of the hotel lose money.
Building a hotel is just a beginning. There must be many facilities as well, including roads to get to the hotel, electricity ,sewers (阴沟) to handle waste ,and water. All of these support facilities cost money. If they are not used because there are not enough tourists, jobs and money are lost.

C. the higher cost of support facilities D. a rise in price and a fall in pay
49. It is good for local people to be well aware that tourism will _______.
A. use up a large amount of water B. weaken their economy
C. help establish their traditions D. help improve their life
50. The word “ handle” in the last paragraph most probably means _______
A. carry away B. pick up C. get in D. take down

Long bus rides are like television shows. They have a beginning, a middle, and an end with commercials(商业广告) thrown in every three or four minutes. The commercials are unavoidable. They happen whether you want them or not. Every couple of minutes a billboard glides by outside the bus window. “Buy super Clean Toothpaste.” “Drink Good Wet Root Beer.” “Fill up with Pacific Gas.” Only if you sleep, which is equal to turning the television set off, are you spared the unending cry of “You Need It Now!”
The beginning of the ride is comfortable and somewhat exciting, even if you’ve traveled that way before. Usually some things have changed-new houses, new buildings, sometimes even a new road. The bus driver has a style of driving and it’s fun to try to figure it out the first hour or so. If the driver is particularly reckless or daring, the ride can be as thrilling as a suspense story. Will the driver pass the truck in time? Will the driver move into the right or the left-hand lane? After a while, of course, the excitement dies down. Sleeping for a while helps pass the middle hours of the ride. Food always makes bus rides more interesting. But you’ve got to be careful of what kind of food you eat. Too much salty food can make you very thirsty between stops.
The end of the ride is somewhat like the beginning. You know it will soon be over and there’s a kind of expectation and excitement in that. The seat, of course, has become harder as the hours have passed. By now you’ve sat with your legs crossed, with your hands in your lap, with your hands on the arm rests-even with your hands crossed behind your head. The end comes just at the right time. There are just no more ways to sit.
51. According to the passage, what do the passengers usually see when they are on a long bus trip?
A. Buses on the road B.Films on television
C. Advertisements on billboards D. Gas stations
52. What is the purpose of this passage?
A. To show the similarities between long bus trips and TV shows.
B. To persuade you to take a long bus trip.
C. To display the differences between long bus trips and TV shows.
D. To describe the billboards along the road.
53. The writer of this passage would probably favor _____________.
A. bus drivers who weren’t reckless
B. driving alone
C. a television set on the bus
D. no billboards along the road
54. The writer feels long bus rides are like TV shows because ______________.
A. the commercials both on TV shows and on the billboards along the road are fun
B. they both have a beginning, a middle, and an end, with commercials in between
C. the drivers are always reckless on TV shows just as they are on buses
D. both traveling and watching TV are not exciting
55. The writer thinks that the end of the ride is somewhat like the beginning because both are ______________.
A. exciting B. comfortable C. tiring D. boring

Every afternoon hundreds of thousands of youths flood Internet cafes, switch on game consoles (游戏机), or otherwise sit down to involve themselves in intense fantasy worlds. I’m talking about video games; games like Counter Strike, Diablo, Smash Brothers or Halo. These games can be fun and exciting but we need to watch out when this pastime becomes an addiction.
Games are often exciting and dramatic, but they generally aren’t very intellectual. We don’t learn as much from them as we would simply reading a book and spending too much time playing then can take away from our study time. We need to remember that we re students first and foremost. Nothing should ever get in the way of proper studying.
Video games can also be a bad influence on younger children who may be watching. Many video games are violent and the object in most of them is to kill the other player(s). This does not send the right message to the children who need to be told that violence is not acceptable and need to be taught how to handle situations maturely(成熟的). Even if we do decide to sit down and play a violent video game, we need to make sure that it is not influencing the younger children around us

Should Students Play Computer Games?
Every afternoon, many students go into Internet cafes to play computer games. For computer games are fun and exciting. Though so many students are attracted by the computer games, they can’t learn many useful things from the games. Besides, playing computer games takes up too much their study time. What’s worse, some of the games have a bad influence on students.
Some of my classmates are fond of playing computer games. Should students play computer games? Different students have different ideas about it. Some think it is a way of relaxing after a day’s study. So they enjoy playing computer games. However, others disagree with them. In their point of view, playing computer games is a waste of time. What’s worse, some of the games are too violent.
In my opinion, playing computer games may affect my study. It is a waste of time and the most important thing is that the games send wrong message to the youth. Besides, it’s bad for eyes when spending too much time in playing computer games. Although we are burdened with so much work, we can find other ways to relax ourselves, such as playing basketball, playing football and singing.
